The Director of Education works under the direction of the Director of Operations to administer the Education functions and operations for the George Gordon First Nation (GGFN). This includes overseeing primary, secondary, and post-secondary education programs, along with our training and development department, implementing culturally relevant curriculum, managing budgets, and collaborating with leadership, educators, and community members to enhance educational opportunities for students and adult learners. The Director of Education will ensure that education services align with First Nation values, traditions, and community priorities while maintaining compliance with federal and provincial education regulations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide leadership, support and monitoring of the Daycare, Headstart, and Post Secondary learning programs including Education and Training, to ensure all programs, services or courses are congruent with GGFN.
- Provide leadership with respect to educational policies and best practices.
- Develop, review and implement policy and procedures supporting staff and Education Committee.
- Required to manage and facilitate meetings, reports and applications at various levels (i.e. school, community, provincial, and federal).
- Will promote positive partnerships with GGFN departments and programs and community groups in pursuit of positive educational outcomes for children, students and adult learners.
- Develop and implement both short and long term tactical and strategic plans in accordance with GGFN goals and objectives.
- Assist on Project Management Teams for School Capital Projects.
- Assist the Director of Finance and Administration in managing project budgets, forecasts, and long-term financial plans; ensure adherence to annual budgets.
- School transportation (Busses, contracts, and safety of students).
- Maintain strict confidentiality.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in education administration or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in educational leadership, preferably within a First Nations
- Strong understanding of First Nations culture, traditions, and education
- Experience in curriculum development, program management, and policy
- Knowledge of federal and provincial education policies affecting First Nations education.
- Manage and organize all oversight grant functions and activities concerning budgetary fiscal prudence, mandatory reporting, and government allocation monitoring.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and conflict resolution
- Experience working with Chief and Council, Elders, and community
- Valid driver’s license CPIC/Vulnerable sector check.
SALARY
