The Director of Operations serves as the chief visionary and strategic leader of the GGFN community. This role involves providing overall direction and leadership to ensure the effective governance and management of the community. The D.O. collaborates closely with the Chief and Council to develop and implement long-term strategic plans that align with the community’s goals and cultural values. Additionally, the D.O. represents GGFN in external affairs, building partnerships and advocating for the community’s interests at various levels of government and with external organizations.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Governance:
- Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction.
- Collaborate with Chief and Council to develop and implement strategic plans.
- Ensures that Chief and Council are kept informed through advice and reports
- Recruits, manages and directs GGFN’s senior management team, oversees all human resource activities and organizes the workplace to effectively and efficiently implement GGFN’s vision and goals
- Oversee financial management and sustainability, which includes working with the senior management team to oversee budget development and tracking.
- Oversees the delivery of community programs and services.
- Ensure transparency and accountability in all aspects of operations of GGFN
- Ensure compliance of effective governance practices, policies and regulations.
- Community Engagement:
- Foster strong relationships with community members by regularly facilitating community meetings to provide updates about the “state of the nation”.
- Promote community involvement in decision-making
- Represent the First Nation at public events, meetings, and with external
- Advocacy and Partnerships:
- Advocate for GGFNs interests at various levels of government and with external stakeholders.
- Build and maintain partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, and other organizations.
- Lead or participate in negotiation agreements and partnerships that benefit the community.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business management, Public Administration, Indigenous Studies, or related experience. Master’s degree preferred.
- Proven experience in a senior leadership role within a First Nation or Indigenous organization.
- Strong understanding of First Nation governance, culture, and traditions.
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills.
- Strong financial acumen.
- Demonstrated the ability to deal with and balance competing priorities among a broad range of stakeholders and at times, working in a high-stress environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- High level of integrity and ethical standards.
Salary: Based on work experience, training, and education.
